The God with a Red Dot is a short story by Prashant Chopra. I had brought it a long time back and it had been lying unread in my Kindle. I was getting bored that day so i thought i should give it a shot as i was not in a mood to start something long and didn't want to read the books that i was reading. Akki is a teenage boy who is growing up in a middle class family. The story revolves around a day of his. His family consists of his father, who rules his home with an iron hand, his mother, who tries to please everybody, his grand father and him. The way the things happening around him affect him form the content of the story.
The story resonated with me as i have seen the husband wife relation like the one which has been portrayed between Akhil's father and mother. The father is unnecessary rude to her and she's so subservient and takes it silently and with a smile. I used to wonder why the woman puts up with it and all i could come up with was that she's conditioned for it. Also, in most of the cases the woman is financially dependent on the men so they have to bear it because they know at the end this is what their home is and have no where else to go. Thankfully the situation is changing with more woman becoming financially independent.
I liked the story and i'll recommend it. I found the characters realistic and the reaction of Akhil to the situations is also closer to the life.
